Spiced Apple Cider
Get ready to welcome in the crisp autumn weather with spiced apple cider!
Today I had a fall themed makerie day... I spent the morning crafting a harvest wreath for the front door and then I stirred up a batch of spiced cider! The afternoon was spent on the porch with a nice cup of this delicious apple drink!

What makes this different than regular cider is that it has a secret ingredient that makes it a bit spicy...and tasty!
Ingredients:
2 quarts of apple cider or apple juice
1 tsp of ground cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
1/4 cup of brown sugar
2 sliced apples (red or green)
1/2 cup of Hot Tamale candies (THIS is the secret ingredient!)

Pour the apple cider/juice in a large stock pot. Add in the rest of the ingredients.
I like to leave my apple slices in rounds. I think it looks pretty this way and then I save a few to use as garnish!

Simmer and stir for 15 minutes. You can pour the liquid through a strainer after it's cooked but I didn't it. The pieces settle at the bottom so I just use a ladel to pour it into cups.
Serve warm or chilled over ice. I like apple cider both ways but today I had it chilled! How do you like your apple cider?

You can also add an extra cinnamon stick to garnish!
